There are just two more sleeps until Stars of Narrabri Dance for Cancer.

The final countdown to Stars of Narrabri has begun, with 10 local celebrities ready to hit the dance floor this weekend to raise funds for the battle against cancer.

Set to be held this Saturday night at The Crossing Theatre, Stars of Narrabri has challenged local celebrities and community leaders to step out of their comfort zones, learn a dance routine, and will perform it live in front of an audience of more than 300 people, all while raising funds to support people affected by cancer.

“Those strapping on their dance shoes to dance for cancer include Cr Cameron Staines, Bernadette Morgan, Kristy Pattison, Kate Bakhuis, Dr Mary Whitehouse, Ashley Watt, Kait Whiting, Georgina Mazurkiewicz, Kane Watson and Hugh Hunter,” said Kate Dubois community relations coordinator at Cancer Council’s New England/North West office.

“Participants have been working hard on their dance routines with their wonderful teacher and partners, while working towards reaching their fundraising targets.

“The stars have all noted learning how to dance had been challenging but fun, and thanked the community for getting behind their fundraising efforts,” said Kate.

“We are very grateful to the Narrabri community for supporting this event so well.

“Our stars have done an amazing job fundraising and their dance teachers and partners have choreographed a brilliant show for this year. I am so excited to see the community reaction to what this year’s line-up of stars have in store.

“This year marks the third year of Stars of Narrabri Dance for Cancer,” said Kate.

“During this time, the community has raised more than $130,000 for local Cancer Council initiatives, such as transport to treatment, Inala House and accommodation support programs and home help and emergency financial assistance for those impacted by cancer in the community.

“This event would not be possible without our stars and their dance partners as well as all of our major sponsors and we want to thank each of them for their contribution.

“This year we have received amazing support from ARTC Inland Rail, Narrabri Shire Council and the Crossing Theatre, Banksia Group, In Motion Dance Studio and IXL@ Film.

“These sponsors have supported the event from providing the venue to the production, the many hours of dance training and even assisted us with the catering,” said Kate.
