Narrabri could be turning pink, all in the name of breast cancer awareness.

Cancer survivor Karen Kirkby made a presentation to Narrabri Chamber of Commerce at its May meeting held at the Community College last Tuesday night.

Mrs Kirkby is organising a committee to plan Pink Up Narrabri events.

She invited chamber members, as well as the broader community, to take part in the initiative.

While Pink Up Narrabri would be a fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation, Mrs Kirkby said she hopes it will raise awareness about the local breast cancer support nurse based at Narrabri Hospital, Wendy Allen.

“Not every town has a breast cancer nurse,” she told the meeting.

Following Mrs Kirkby’s presentation, The Courier’s manager, Wanda Dunnet, and advertising consultant, Di Ainsworth, encouraged chamber members to attend a free marketing workshop being organised by the newspaper.

Workshops featuring marketing guru Damian Morgan are being held at the Tourist Hotel on Wednesday, June 9 at 10am, 12.30pm and 5.30pm – grab your free tickets here.

Following presentations to the chamber, general business was discussed.

Chamber president Russell Stewart provided an update to members on the business awards which will be held at The Crossing Theatre on September 4.

Mr Stewart reported that previous sponsors had been secured and work was underway to secure additional support.

Award categories will remain the same as previous years and it is hoped that nominations will open in June.

Later in the meeting, chamber member and businessowner Tony Longworth asked the committee to write a letter to Narrabri Shire Council to compliment the work on the Maitland Street upgrade.
