Tracey Rex and Stuart Black recently completed their latest Variety Bash.
This year is the 18th time Tracey has set off on the 3000km drive, and the eighth for Stuart.
Before setting off, the pair did some fundraising in town through bake sales.
With 332 people travelling this year, Tracey and Stuart were part of a big team fundraising for children in need.
Between the 104 Bash cars and 19 official cars, the team raised a massive $1.25m for Variety.
Beginning in Newcastle, this year’s Bash stopped in Quirindi, Inverell, Gilgai, Boggabilla, Moree, Pallamallawa, Rowena, Lightning Ridge, Gwabegar, Gunnedah, Tingha, Armidale, Belltrees and finished up at Pokolbin.
The cars pulled in to 12 schools and a handful of clubs along the way.
Over 60,000 educational resources were donated to the schools they visited.
Tracey said it was great to see the Narrabri Shire so well represented along the route, and was especially impressed by the Rowena and Gwabegar stops.
“Rowena was probably my highlight of the trip,” she said.
“The students performed poetry, which was just wonderful, and the drivers who dressed up as characters all got up and danced with the kids.”
“Gwabegar was lovely too – the ladies put on a fantastic breakfast for us, and everyone got involved and helped one another.”
When asked what the Variety Bash has in store for them next year, Tracey wasn’t quite sure.
“They’ll be releasing the 2022 route on July 17, so we don’t know anything yet,” she said.
“But if I were to hazard a guess, based on the areas covered this time around, I think next year we’ll be heading down south.”
