Wee Waa High School students have been getting a taste of the bricklaying trade with the help of TAFE NSW.

Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 have not only been busy constructing a garden wall and flower bed; they have also been improving their bricklaying skills and building a path to some stable career opportunities.

TAFE bricklaying teacher Peter Moore said the students were enthusiastic about the bricklaying project which has provided them with some valuable work experience.

“This project helps the young people learn practical skills on a project which will benefit the school,” Mr Moore said.

“It is part of the TAFE NSW Trade Readiness partnership with the Department of Education which gives young people an experience of various construction industry roles and encourages them to consider studying a vocational course or even seeking an apprenticeship.”
