Local medical services are doing everything they can to tackle the ongoing pandemic, and the town’s pharmacies are no exception.

In addition to selling COVID-safe supplies, such as masks, hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes, Karen Carter’s Narrabri Pharmacy is also offering contactless delivery.

“Customers can place an order via our website and our team does free home deliveries in town daily,” Mrs Carter said.

“And we’re encouraging immunocompromised locals to take advantage of this option because these vulnerable populations shouldn’t have to put their health at risk to purchase supplies.”

“Especially since the delta strain, which we’re currently seeing threaten NSW, is highly contagious and we want to keep it out of regional areas if possible.”

Almost all Karen Carter staff are fully vaccinated against both COVID and the flu, and they’re continuing to encourage locals to do the same.

“But we want to do more to help the vaccine rollout, so we’ve put in an expression of interest to start administering injections,” Mrs Carter said.

“There’s over 100 pharmacies in Queensland that are already vaccinating residents, but that option only just opened up to chemists in our state this week – so we’re waiting impatiently for the go-ahead for our team to give out the vaccine.

“Twenty-two NSW pharmacies started administering the vaccine on Monday, July 19.

“Another 4000 have been approved so far, but not yet given the green light to start administering those injections.

“The public is willing to get vaccinated, a lot of age groups are just waiting, so we want to help move the rollout along if we can,” Mrs Carter said.

“And pharmacies have a great capacity when it comes to vaccinations, last year alone local chemists administered three million flu vaccines.”
