Police apprehended a 30-year-old man wanted for stealing an all-terrain vehicle from a business on Caroline Way.

The vehicle had been stolen on July 16.

At 2pm on Sunday, July 25, police attended a rugby league game at Collins Park after receiving information that a person of interest was at the grounds.

Police arrived at the scene and upon seeing officers the man fled to the riverbank.

The man entered the water and police lost sight of him.

Police were assisted by other emergency services to conduct a search of the river.

The police dog unit was also called to assist.

However, the man was not located.

Later in the evening, police heard rustling from the bushes by the riverbank and located the man who was emerging from the bushes.

The man tried to flee police, however, they were able to effect his arrest and then conveyed him to Narrabri police station.

He was charged with larceny, destroy or damage property and receive stolen property.

Bail was refused and the man will appear in Narrabri Local Court on August 24.

Truck driver arrested for drink-driving

A truck driver was found to be driving over the limit after crashing on the Newell Highway near Crows Road at 8.50pm on Saturday, July 24.

Police will allege that the driver, who was heading south, drove off the eastern side of the road.

The driver then continued for 100 metres before trying to turn back on the road.

At that point, police said the trailer started to tip over and the truck ploughed into a mound of dirt and an old stump.

Police attended the scene and conducted a breath test which delivered a positive result.

The driver was arrested and conveyed to Narrabri police station for further breath testing.

A reading of 0.08 was registered.

Man charged with assault after hotel altercation

A 25-year-old Narrabri man was charged with common assault after an incident at a Maitland Street hotel on July 21.

Police described the altercation as an unprovoked incident which occurred in the venue’s bistro.

The man is alleged to have hit the victim on the left side of their face.

He will be issued with a court attendance notice.

Vehicle stolen from Saunders Street

Police are appealing for information into the theft of a vehicle from a Saunders Street property on July 17.

The vehicle, a light grey 1998 Ford Fairmont with the registration BQ 26 YS, was believed to have been stolen overnight by unknown offenders.

A Cooma Road petrol station reported the vehicle for failing to pay.

Enquiries into the vehicle’s theft are continuing.
