A suspected COVID-19 case in a Boggabri mine has returned a false positive result.

Urgent testing was undertaken on Sunday following low level detection of the virus.

Hunter New England Health confirmed its investigations in a pandemic update on Sunday morning. Later on Sunday, ABC New England North West reported the investigation had returned a negative result.

In a statement released on Sunday, Boggabri Coal said it had been informed by NSW Health that an employee had tested positive for the virus. Following the second test, which returned the negative result, the company advised its employees who were required to isolate on-site could return home.
