Narrabri Shire Council will seek public input into a revised community plan which allows for delivery of additional infrastructure to improve the liveability of towns and villages and ensure there are sufficient public facilities for residents and visitors.

Mayor Ron Campbell explained that the Schedule of Works for Narrabri Shire’s Section 7.12 Development Consent Levies Contributions Plan had been updated to reflect the current needs of the community and the successful completion of a large number of projects.

“The focus of the proposed new schedule is the wider shire, encouraging the use of recreation areas and providing facilities for all local communities,” he said.

“The amendment will allow improved public amenities and services which assist in improving the health and wellbeing of the community, connecting to services as well as providing safe pathways for pedestrian and cycling traffic.

“Community feedback will help us gauge where progress is most needed.”

Cr Campbell added that Section 7.12 plans are closely monitored to ensure funding is applied to meet the demands of increased development.

Some of the new and existing projects include a leash free dog park for Narrabri, gym equipment installation in Boggabri’s Vickery Park, tennis court upgrade in Wee Waa, addition of table and chairs to the barbecue area at Boggabri Pool, a picnic shelter at Bellata, new or upgraded playgrounds at Pilliga, Gwabegar and Baan Baa, splash parks, accessibility access at all parks and upgraded footpaths.

Under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000, the amended schedule will be placed on public exhibition for a period of 28 days to allow for community consultation, with
council to consider all submissions received.

Section 7.12 Development Consent Levies Contributions Plan and Schedule of Works can be viewed online or at Narrabri Shire Council’s administration building at Maitland Street during business hours.
