Narrabri Airport will benefit from greater safety and accessibility thanks to a new $598,000 apron extension.

The new gravel tarmac will boost the facility’s capabilities, according to Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton.

“The completed project will enhance tourism, boost economic growth and improve access for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Rural Fire Service,” he said.

“I am pleased this investment will ensure Narrabri Airport’s ongoing sustainability as a key regional air services provider for the north west region, thanks to the Coalition’s Regional Airports Program.”

“Air services are vital to regional and remote communities, and this upgrade is a win for the Narrabri community.”

Narrabri Shire Council mayor, Ron Campbell, and a number of other local officials accompanied the MP on a recent visit to inspect the new apron.

Like Mr Coulton, the mayor was impressed with the tarmac improvements, saying the space will be invaluable in times of emergency.

“This is part of the overall Narrabri Airport Masterplan that council adopted in 2018,” Cr Campbell said.

“And these upgrades will allow for increased efficiency and safety of aircraft traffic movement and parking, providing emergency and medical services improved accessibility to pumping stations in times of crisis.”

The federal government invested $299,392 into the project, with council contributing the remaining funds.
