The end of roadworks on Maitland Street was a welcome relief to local drivers, but they aren’t the only ones excited by the project’s completion.

Mayor Ron Campbell and member for Parkes Mark Coulton were joined by a number of Narrabri Shire Council officials last week as they inspected the newly upgraded CBD.

Mr Coulton is pleased with the main street make-over and expects the $3.38 million road pavement replacement to benefit the region for years to come.

“I am thrilled with the result of the CBD and the improved access for shoppers, residents and visitors, boosting productivity for local businesses,” Mr Coulton said.

“As a former mayor, I understand the importance of CBD presentation for community morale.”

“I anticipate travellers stopping and staying longer because of the investment.”

Mr Coulton says he believes the project to be a great example of two tiers of government – local and state – working together to better the local community.

Mr Campbell echoed the MP’s comments, stating how important it is to have an attractive and accessible CBD to support Narrabri’s thriving economy.

“The final outcome certainly has been worth the temporary disruption with the long-lasting, smooth surface set to service the community for decades to come,” he said.

“The pavement replacement project is a major component of the overall CBD Masterplan, which provides the future planning and development of the Narrabri CBD over the next 15 years.”

The Maitland Street project was funded partially by the Australian government with $1.47 million from one program and $977,367 from another.

Narrabri Shire Council contributed the remaining funds for the project.
