A request to suspend the alcohol-free zone in Maitland Street for a Pink Street Dinner Party has been approved by Narrabri Shire Council at its August meeting.

The Rotary Club of Narrabri sought approval for the suspension to enable the event, scheduled for October, to go ahead.

The street dinner party is part of Pink Up Namoi festivities being organised to raise awareness and funds for the McGrath Foundation and its breast care nurse program.

Pink Up Namoi has been spearheaded by breast cancer survivor Karen Kirkby and an organising committee that is aiming to see the entire shire included in the campaign.

Mrs Kirkby’s experience with McGrath breast care nurses through her ordeal motivated her to engage her home district in the Pink Up Your Town campaign.

Community organisations, including Rotary and the local chambers of commerce, have unanimously supported the cause.

The McGrath Foundation calls on communities big or small to ‘turn their town pink’ to raise vital funds for specialist McGrath breast care nurses while also creating a visual show of support for local people going through breast cancer.
