There is concern about sewage detection in regional NSW, including in both Gunnedah and Tamworth where there are currently no known cases.

“There have been new detections of COVID-19 viral fragments in sewage catchments in Tamworth and for the first time Gunnedah,” a Hunter New England Health statement issued this morning read.

“This points to an infectious person being in those communities or having recently visited. Anyone with even the mildest of symptoms in these areas is encouraged to get tested.”

NSW Health announced earlier today that the state had recorded 1116 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

Two new cases were acquired overseas in that period, taking the total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 27,922.

NSW Health has also been notified of the deaths of four people who had COVID-19. There have now been 100 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since June 16, and 156 in total since the start of the pandemic.

There are currently 917 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 150 people in intensive care, 66 of whom require ventilation.

There were 173,913 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 130,027.
