Cancer Council wants to say a huge thank you to the Narrabri community for their support of several recent fundraising events.

Cancer Council held the most successful Stars of Narrabri event to date this year in May 2021.

Our amazing line-up of local stars, supporters and sponsors helped raise just over $74,000 from this event.

This event was a sell-out with over 300 people attending on the night to support the brave stars who took on the challenge of learning to dance, all while fundraising for Cancer Council.

This event, along with our Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, The Longest Day golf challenge and a number of individual supporters and community groups creating their own challenges walking, cycling, shaving their heads, giving up their favourite treats and hosting their own pink events has enabled us to maintain our support services in what has been a very difficult time for most charitable organisations.

The support from communities like Narrabri has meant that, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to maintain our practical support programs that people going through cancer have relied on.

Throughout the pandemic we have been able to keep our transport to treatment cars, including the Namoi Valley service on the road, assisting people to safely access their cancer treatment.

We have been able to keep our accommodation service, Inala House open to patients needing safe accommodation at the Northwest Cancer Centre; people from Narrabri LGA and the Inverell LGA are our two biggest users of this facility.

This service, along with our overflow accommodation service continues to remain at no cost to anyone needing accommodation assistance while undergoing lengthy treatments and visiting specialist oncology doctors.

We have also been able to maintain the operation of our 13 11 20 information and support service at a time when reliable, accurate information about cancer has never been more important.

Our phone number, 13 11 20 is also the triage point for all our other Cancer Council practical support services, including emergency financial assistance, emotional support and counselling and access to our pro bono legal and financial planning program.

On behalf of anyone going through cancer who has received support from Cancer Council, thank you to all those in the Narrabri Community who have stepped up and dug deep.

We are especially grateful as we know Narrabri has done it tough with the drought, fires, floods, a plague and a pandemic, yet your community spirt, generosity and kindness has shone through.
