“The English lexicon continues to evolve, but not always for the better,” a correspondent tells Topical.“I am astounded at the words that get added to the dictionary.” Some of the additions are COVID-related, including long hauler (relating to someone who suffers from the virus for a long period). But there were a few other additions that the correspondent was not amused about. Words like youse, yeet and bants are among the absurd inclusions. “I find the use of the ‘word’ youse in general conversation already infuriating. The fact that it is now an official word is even more agonising. “Yeet, an exclamation of enthusiasm, is just as ridiculous if you ask me. “And then there is bants, a shortened form of the word banter. “Let’s stick to using traditional English words, please.”
