It’s official – the new ‘Queen of the English Channel’ is an Australian. Aussie marathon swimmer Chloe McCardel set a new record for swimming the English Channel last Wednesday after completing her 44th crossing which took her 10 hours and one minute. In doing so, she bettered English swimmer Alison Streeter’s record of 43 crossings. McCardel, from Melbourne, surpassed the male record last year which was 34 crossings, held by British swimmer Kevin Murphy. Topical looks forward to the Aussies getting another one over England this summer when we host the 2021-22 Ashes series.
