A lucky local mum has taken out the division one prize in Lotto’s Set for Life.

The win means she’ll receive $20,000 every month for the next 20 years, totalling $4.8 million.

The Narrabri mum held one of only two division one winning entries across Australia, drawn on Friday, October 15.

Her win is the second major Lotto prize snagged in the district this month alone, with a Gunnedah couple taking home $3.3 million in early October.

Narrabri Shire is well-represented among prize-winners this year, with a Wee Waa shopper taking home $10,000 from a successful Instant Scratch-Its ticket in May.

The Narrabri mum’s win is also the second Set for Life division one prize to land in New South Wales in just one week.

She relayed how the excitement unfolded, and why the win came at just the right time.

“I had a really bad day on Friday – I was feeling miserable actually,” she said.

“So, I went and saw my daughter and just talked it all through.

“When I got home, I decided to quickly check my Set for Life tickets on The Lott app.

“As soon as I clicked on my ticket, I saw confetti fall from the screen and then I noticed the division one win.

“I screamed so loud and then burst into tears.

“I ran straight into my son’s bedroom and woke him up to tell him – he just looked at me and said, ‘no way mum, you’re dreaming, go back to bed’.”

The woman then contacted her daughter with the good news.

“I called my daughter and sent her a photo of the ticket to double check for me – she was so shocked,” she said.

“She just kept saying, ‘Mum, you’ve won! You’ve really won!’.

“I didn’t sleep a wink that night.

“I stayed up chatting on the phone to my daughter – we kept talking about what to do with the money and how much it’ll change all our lives.

“We definitely cried and screamed a lot that night.”

The sleepless night made for plenty of time to plan how the woman would spend her prize money.

“I love my job so much, so I definitely won’t quit,” she said.

“The first thing any parent wants to do is help their kids, so that’s exactly what I will do.

“I might look at buying a new house, or maybe a new car too.

“I will save a lot of it for my retirement as well.”

She says the division one win has helped ease a lot of the family’s stress.

“It has taken away so many worries and pressures,” she said.

“It feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders, which is just incredible.”
