Voters in next month’s Narrabri Shire Council election could have at least 23 candidates to choose from after would-be councillors nominated for the role.

Narrabri Shire voters will elect nine councillors when they go to the polls on Saturday, December 4.

The ballot draw for the voting paper was due to be held today.

The exact number of candidates and their details is also expected today.

At the time of Thursday’s Courier going to print yesterday, 13 individuals are contesting the election in addition to two groups of five people.

This information had been published on the NSW Electoral Commission website.

However, this number could change as the commission processed nominations throughout the day yesterday following the 12pm cut-off.

The names of the candidates will be published in next Tuesday’s Courier once the final details are available from the NSW Electoral Commission.

Voting is compulsory at NSW local government elections.

Pre-poll voting will open on November 22 and run to December 3, while polling on election day will run from 8am to 6pm.

Postal vote applications close on November 29.

Nominees are invited to participate in The Courier’s ‘Meet the Candidates’ feature to be published on November 18.
