When a local shopper was asked how they’d describe McKechnie Bros Narrabri, she answered “old-fashioned service with a smile, which is often hard to find”.

And this happy customer isn’t the only one to say so – the shop has become known for its friendly service in the two and a half decades since opening its doors in Narrabri.

McKechnies offers everything you’d ever need for the house and yard, including hardware, plumbing, homewares, electrical, gas, renovation equipment, gardening supplies and even an in-house locksmith.

Whatever you’re after, this business has it.

And, if you’re not sure what exactly you need, the friendly team are always happy to help.

McKechnies sets itself apart from competitors by underpinning their renowned ‘service with a smile’, with expert industry knowledge.

Not only do they know the business inside and out, but they’re all from the local area, so they can help offer advice specific to others residing in the Narrabri Shire.

But it doesn’t stop there – if McKechnies doesn’t have the item you’re after, they’ll happily place a custom order for you.

And, once you’ve got everything your home project requires, you can have it hand-delivered by the team.

Businessowner Merryl Herden says she and the team pride themselves on their above and beyond approach to customer service.

“Not everyone knows what product they might need for a specific job, so our team can help you navigate all the available brands and options,” she said.

“And we all try our very best to solve the problem you walked into the store with.”

McKechnies willingness to help out, however they can, extends beyond the sales till.

Mrs Herden and the whole team care deeply about the local community, and have shown their support for a range of fundraisers and initiatives across the region.

“We’ve donated to raffles in town, and sponsored a number of sports teams,” Mrs Herden explained.

“More recently, we were involved in Pink Up Namoi.

“Doing our bit for such causes is important to McKechnies, because we want to give back all the support this town shows us.

“Without local customers supporting our small business, especially through uncertain times like COVID, we wouldn’t be able to keep our doors open.

“So, when a group needs our help, we’re always willing to get involved – it’s just something you do when you live and work in a tight-knit community like Narrabri.”

But the team’s fundraising efforts also extend beyond their own backyard.

McKechnies is participating in Movember this month, as the business has done plenty of times in the past.

Mrs Herden says the team takes pride in raising funds for men’s health, but she’s especially excited to be taking part in 2021.

“We’ve supported Movember in years past, because we know how important it is to bring awareness to the cause,” she said.

“But this year will be even better than it’s been in the past, because I can take part by wearing my moustache face mask – I haven’t been able to participate before now.”

In addition to Mrs Herden’s stylish Movember fashion, five other McKechnies’ staff members are taking part in the 2021 campaign.

Anyone looking to support the team can donate either in-store, or online via the ‘MoKechnie Bros’ tab of the Movember website.
