Flood watch issued for catchments across state, including the Namoi River

The Namoi River was among many catchments across NSW which was put on flood watch earlier this week.

An alert was issued yesterday ahead of wet and stormy weather expected to develop across the state from today.

The flood watch issued by the Bureau of Meteorology said widespread flooding for large parts of the state could be possible from later today.

Major flooding was likely around the northern slopes, its alert said.

“Widespread rainfall across NSW is expected through the second half of the week,” the bureau’s alert said.

“Very intense rainfall rates are likely for some areas, most likely over the north from late Wednesday.

“The heaviest rainfall is forecast to contract to the south east of the state through the weekend as the low moves offshore.

“The weather system is expected to cause flooding for the catchments listed from late Wednesday into the weekend.

“Flood classes are only defined for catchments where the bureau provides a flood warning service.”

In its list of catchments, the bureau has indicated the Namoi could be subject to moderate to major flooding.
