‘Fourth time lucky’ isn’t how the saying traditionally goes, however, it’s one that Narrabri District Cricket Association clubs have been forced to resort to after the third round of the 2021-22 campaign was washed out on the weekend.
An abundance of rain has fallen in Narrabri across the past three weeks, which saw the first two weeks of the season cancelled and the first game of the MA Connolly Cup season cut short.
The four NDCA clubs were eager to get back on the park on Friday and Saturday, but any hopes of matches going ahead were dashed on Friday morning when the association made an announcement that informed players all four scheduled games had been abandoned for the third time.
That included both Friday night’s second grade T20 contests and Saturday’s first grade one day 45-over games.
That meant that, as of Saturday, half of the 2021-22 second grade T20 competition had been abandoned, as had a quarter of the first grade one day 45-over campaign.
With no rain forecasted for this week, the four clubs are hopeful for ‘fourth time lucky’ – that they will all be able to finally break out the whites for the first time this year.
A grand final rematch is scheduled to kick off the first grade one day season on Saturday when defending champions RSL Cricket Club takes on the Western Razorbacks at Collins Park.
The last time those two sides played at that venue was back on Saturday, March 13, when RSL demolished the Wee Waa-based club by eight wickets to comprehensively win the 2020-21 first grade grand final.
The other round four contest this Saturday will see Tatts challenge Tourist Hotel at Leitch Oval.
The second grade sides will play the first round of their one day 40-over competition on Saturday.
Tatts will meet Tourist Sports Bar at Hogan Oval, while RSL and Tourist Hotel travel to Wee Waa, where they will meet at Dangar Park.
