Cotton Seed Distributors (CSD) is one of the leading companies in its industry, and they’re looking to expand their team even further.
Unfortunately, the company isn’t seeing as many women apply for their vacant operations assistant positions as they’d like.
Research suggests this is because men tend to dominate the workforce in traditionally masculine industries, like agriculture.
However, this gender gap is slowly closing.
In recent years, many male-dominated industries – such as rail and construction – have seen great benefits from encouraging women to apply for jobs they may not usually consider.
And CSD is no exception.
The local corporation has a diversity and inclusion strategic plan in place, which looks at women in leadership roles and the leadership pipeline.
This means that training and progression opportunities within CSD are just as likely for women as it is for men.
Chief financial officer and HR lead, Kelly Christianson, says the only thing needed now is more women on the CSD team.
“We aim to remove structural barriers that may be impacting the disproportionate number of women in all levels and roles within our company,” she said.
“Which is why we’re especially targeting women in this recruitment drive.”
Ms Christianson only recently joined the team herself, and hopes to see more women do the same.
“We know women play a key role in a number of sectors, and our hard-work often benefits these companies, so why should agriculture be any different?” she said.
“I’ve been welcomed with open arms since joining the team in Wee Waa this year, and I encourage more intelligent, driven and motivated women to consider starting work with us too.”
However, CSD’s focus on new female operations assistants doesn’t exclude men.
They’re looking for as many new team members as possible for the upcoming busy season, so all genders are encouraged to apply.
Driven, honest, reliable workers with a commitment to safe work practices will be looked upon favourably.
Some computer literacy will be required, as well as an ability to work days and nights on a rotating shift roster.
Successful applicants will possess great attention to detail and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidates will also have some production/manufacturing experience and hold a forklift/loader/EWP licence, or at least have an aptitude to learn these skills through on-the-job training.
As well as an inclusive environment and industry-leading CSD mentors, the available positions offer a number of other benefits.
CSD’s new operations assistants will reap the rewards of excellent job satisfaction and a highly competitive salary.
“You get a real sense of purpose working with CSD because you know you’re contributing to the enhancement of the national cotton industry,” Ms Christianson said.
“Not to mention, a leading salary package that rewards you for past work experience.
“Plus, for the right individuals, there’s amazing potential to grow within the brand through additional training and career progression opportunities.”
The organisation offers plenty of on-the-job training, as well as an inclusive and supportive team, so why not consider joining CSD today?
