Narrabri Shire Council will suspend the alcohol free zone in Maitland Street for the staging of the second NarraBRIGHT festival in March next year.

Councillor Annie McMahon moved the recommendation that the dry zone be suspended in the evening of March 18 and council hopes this will encourage businesses to offer outdoor dining during the CBD activation event.

This was seconded by Cr Cathy Redding.

“After the success of last year’s NarraBRIGHT event, council will once again be hosting the activation project for Narrabri’s CBD to bring life to local public spaces,” a report tabled at last week’s council meeting read.

The purpose of this event is to host events or activation that increase foot traffic and dwell time within the CBD (main retail centres) in communities, to encourage patrons back after COVID-19 and create local economic stimulus.”
