The local Shared Table team is excited to be back up and running with more flexible COVID restrictions in the post-lockdown world.

As the not-for-profit resumes its services, donors such as OzHarvest are there to help.

The OzHarvest mobile market hit the local streets, visiting Narrabri on Wednesday, November 18, to make valuable food donations to Shared Table for the first time.

The out-of-town team purchased ingredients from Narrabri’s Paradise Fresh, and packaged up the fresh produce including bananas, apples, oranges, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, carrots and tomatoes alongside essentials like eggs.

The packages were handed over to Shared Table volunteers Joan Griffiths, Marie Hatch and Debbie Smith, who gratefully accepted the generous donation.

“It’s just wonderful to have OzHarvest’s help,” Mrs Griffiths said.

“We’re proud to service those in need across the Narrabri Shire, but it wouldn’t be possible without this kind of support.

“Shared Table will be using these ingredients to put together hampers, and will also be used in preparing our sit-down weekly meals.

“To be able to keep it local by purchasing this produce from Narrabri wholesaler, Paradise Fresh, makes it even better.”

OzHarvest representatives, Susie Westgarth and Nick Johnston, were also happy with their experience at the local grocer.

“The stock we purchase depends on what’s available and what offers the best value for money,” Ms Westgarth said.

“There was plenty of variety at Paradise Fresh and the ingredients we purchased were excellent quality.”

The OzHarvest mobile market also serviced Wee Waa, Bellata, Boggabri and Curlewis on its trip out west, before returning to its home base in Newcastle.

This service in Northern NSW has changed to ensure the highest COVID safety standards since the recent lockdown.

Local organisations including primary schools, CWA, Shared Table and other local volunteer leaders are key to the safe re-distribution of OzHarvest’s healthy produce in these trying times.

OzHarvest’s style of service will return to pop-up markets in the new year, guided by NSW health recommendations.
