Narrabri Shire Council is working with Resilience NSW and other government agencies to ensure local communities are supported during recovery from recent storm and flood events.
Council’s general manager Stewart Todd said the State Emergency Service and Department of Communities and Justice had been working alongside Local Emergency Management Committees and councils through the recovery effort. The federal government’s Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements will also assist with the operational cost of infrastructure repairs such as roads and bridges.
“As one of the 38 local government areas announced under the Natural Disaster Declaration, there is a range of support for residents of Narrabri Shire whose properties have been impacted,” he said.
Mr Todd said special assistance measures were in place to help with the cost of clean-up for communities and individuals across the shire.
“Some of our smaller communities such as Gwabegar and Pilliga have been hit the hardest, with damage to homes and belongings,” he said.
The support includes Disaster Relief Grants which are available to provide financial assistance to eligible individuals and families whose homes and essential household contents have been damaged or destroyed by a disaster.
“The grants are designed to help people with limited financial resources and no insurance to help them replace essential household items and make their home safe and habitable again.”
