The recent floods failed to dampen the Pilliga community’s festive spirit with the annual Christmas tree event taking place on Saturday, December 11 at the town’s community centre.
The jolly man in red arrived in bush-style, courtesy of a horse and sulky which was driven by Matt Steele.
This year due to flooding the event was postponed and held a week later. This year there were 52 children on Santa’s list, all were lucky enough to receive a gift after a year of very and a lucky dip, along with ice cream.
Unfortunately, seven children were unable to attend due to flooding. Once the gifts were distributed, the Christmas tree then held its yearly raffles which were well supported by the community.
“The Christmas tree committee would like to acknowledge all the business houses in Wee Waa which generously donated and participated in our annual event,” said Jenny Stewart.
“Without their ongoing support, this event would not continue. This yearly event has been serving the Pilliga community for around 67 years.
“Once again a big shout out to you all and Merry Christmas.”
