Narrabri-owned-and-trained pacer Killara Insanity raced to his eighth podium finish of the year when he narrowly missed out on victory last Thursday at the Tamworth Paceway.
He was driven by Narrabri reinsman and part-owner, Chris Shepherdson, to a second-place finish after the pair started from pole position in the 1609-metre Multiquip Golden Guitar 21st January Pace (NR up to 49).
The five-year-old gelding, owned by Neil Dysdale and Chris, Garry and Peter Shepherdson, gave up the lead early in race five as Dean Chapple drove Grandview into an early lead.
Grandview got to the pegs at the first bend as Killara Insanity settled behind him in third as fellow Narrabri pacer Somethingaboutlexy, which was driven by Jack Buckman for local trainer Jarred Hetherington, was running second just outside Grandview.
That trio still occupied those positions with three circuits left to run, then Killara Insanity charged into second past Somethingaboutlexy with half a lap left to go.
Grandview and Killara Insanity left the final turn as the clear frontrunners before the Chapple-driven pacer outlasted his Narrabri opponent down the home straight to win by two-and-a-half metres.
The Dean Chapple-trained, Elly Chapple-driven Shannons Shadow charged home to place third after running last for about 250 metres during the final lap.
Somethingaboutlexy eventually ran home in ninth position.
Other Narrabri pacers in action on Thursday were the Hetherington-trained, Murray Sullivan-driven gelding Theagenes, which finished last in race two, the Hetherington-trained, Sullivan-driven gelding Always Bopping and the Garry Shepherdson-trained, Chris Shepherdson-driven gelding Montana Nights, which finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in race six, the Hethering-
ton-trained, Buckman-driven filly Sahara Jewel, which placed fifth in race seven and the Peter Shepherdson-trained, Chris Shepherdson-driven mare Yellow Bow, which finished ninth in race eight.
