Bellata greyhound Lagoon Dark Eyes returned to the Gunnedah Greyhound Racing Club track on Thursday where he lined up in the Armidale Cup final.
He qualified for the 431-metre no grade feature event a week earlier when he raced to a seventh straight victory in style.
The two-year-old, which is trained by Bellata’s Kevin Campbell, went in search of win number eight in what was his 10th start on Thursday.
He placed second by less than a length in that race following a fierce battle with the Rob Tyler-trained Good Time Lenny.
The duo started the race next to one another, Lagoon Dark Eyes from box seven and Good Time Lenny from box eight, and almost immediately established themselves as the race’s two front runners before they went into the home straight with nothing separating them.
Good Time Lenny charged home quickest to win by three-quarters of a length from Lagoon Dark Eyes to claim the $5000 top prizemoney.
The Bellata greyhound earned $730 for the second-place finish to extend his career earnings to $11,250.
He maintained his 100 per cent top-two finish rate as he now boats seven wins and three second-place finishes from his first 10 starts since making his debut in September.
