Narrabri Shire Youth Council members have completed training as part of their personal development as leaders of the future.
Narrabri Shire Council general manager Stewart Todd said the three-day program from December 10 to 12 incorporated peer support, presentation skills and leadership development.
“The aim of the program was to help them as young leaders to further understand their role as the inaugural Narrabri Youth Council and develop their leadership skills and vision for the Narrabri Shire,” he said.
Mr Todd explained that during training, the young people participated in different activities which enhanced their development.
“This helped them to show their vision for projects they would like to see undertaken in the Narrabri Shire which were then presented on the final day of the workshop.
“Council values the input of every community member, including the younger generation,” Mr Todd said.
“Their contribution to community development is highly valued and council encourages them to have a say in planning and development in the Narrabri Shire.”
Mr Todd acknowledged the training facilitators Belle Powell and Jackson Mawlette-Shelley along with the support of council staff and parents of youth council members who helped to implement the program.
“The various contributors made this a very valuable exercise for Narrabri Youth Council and the organisation.”
