Police are treating a fire which destroyed a Genanagie Street house in the early hours of Saturday morning as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to the home at 2.15am on Saturday, January 15, following reports of a fire.

Narrabri’s Fire and Rescue brigade arrived on scene to find the single level residential building totally involved in fire.

Fire attack crews got to work with extinguishing the fire when concerns were raised from bystanders regarding persons being seen in the vicinity who were unaccounted for.

After several extensive searches, firefighters confirmed no persons were located within the structure or surrounding areas.

Due to the lack of an available water source, NSW Rural Fire Service was requested to assist with providing an additional water supply to aid in extinguishing the blaze.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue has thanked NSW Police, ambulance and RFS personnel in addition to Boggabri’s Fire and Rescue brigade and additional Hazmat crews from Tamworth which assisted with the incident.

Following the fire, officers attached to Oxley Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed suspicious activity to come forward.
