A breakfast was held at Marinda Nursery last week as part of Narrabri Shire Council’s Small Business Month activities.

“Small business month in 2022 is all about rebuilding, recharging, and renewing,” said NSC small business liaison officer Gillian Goddard.

“It’s about empowering business owners and small businesses to take care of themselves, to build their skills and capacity to be able to achieve the goals they wish to achieve.”

Wee Waa and District Chamber of Commerce members chatted to NSC representatives as well as Why Leave Town Promotions marketing manager Rhys Gard about ideas and opportunities for the region’s business community.

Mrs Goddard said it was a “very exciting time” for business across the shire.

“There’s lots of interest – people looking to grow their businesses, scale their businesses in line with the increase in agricultural outputs and there’s also new industries becoming more established.

“There are always challenges but overall, there’s a lot of positivity and people looking to move to the shire – which is great.”

The hard work of chamber members was also recognised, including their drive to help projects such as the Wee Waa Arts and Cultural Centre come to fruition.

There was also discussion about the chamber recently passing a resolution to become an incorporated organisation and the benefits that status will bring to small business owners and the local economy.

It’s expected it will help with grant applications and accessing opportunities such as hosting workshops in town.

Chamber members also spoke about attracting new members to join the group.
