Paul and Dianne Foster, their four adult children, Clipjoint staff members past and present and their families and George Francis, who worked with Paul 45 years ago and has remained a friend of the family, gathered at the Narrabri Golf Club on Saturday night, March 19, 2022, to acknowledge Paul’s landmark of 50 years in hairdressing.

Paul commenced his hairdressing career on March 2, 1968, when he took up an apprenticeship with JH & JG Thomas’ Barber Shop in Narrabri.

The only place he could complete hairdressing qualifications was at the TAFE in Ultimo, so he moved to Sydney and began working at Cordony’s Hair at Top Ryde.

It was a busy time, with Paul working for Cordony’s during the day and two nights a week, another two nights at TAFE, two nights doing bar work at the Ryde Leagues Club, and cleaning salons on weekends with his new wife, Dianne.

Paul completed the qualifications for his licence in Mens and Ladies Hairdressing on February 20, 1972.

In 1975, Paul moved his family back home to Narrabri and started his own business, Clipjoint Hairdressing.

The salon started upstairs at Aroney’s Arcade but after 14 years more room was needed and Clipjoint Hairdressing moved to the ground floor in the Namoi Arcade next door.

On July 10, 2017, the Clipjoint moved again, to its current location, across Maitland Street to the former Authentic Trademarks shop where Paul and Dianne owned their own business premises for the first time.

Paul currently employs eight staff members.

Paul himself has been hairdressing for 50 years and has operated Clipjoint Hairdressing for 47 years.
