Narrabri Shire Council’s new Mount Kaputar parking area is set to be a drawcard for visitors to the area.

Narrabri Shire Council mayor Ron Campbell said the $39,000 project on the Old Gunnedah Road had been funded through the Drought Communities Program DCP Extension fund.

“This area will allow travellers with caravans to unhitch for the day and do more sightseeing in the Mount Kaputar National Park where caravans are not permitted,” he said.

“This is a stunning environment of natural beauty and people may be missing out due to their inability to tow their caravan into the park.”

The new parking area already has a shade shelter and a striking laser-cut steel sign, which were both constructed by local company GFS Engineering. The 3D sign features a greeting in the language of the traditional owners of the land, the Gamilaroi people.

“Council is also working on the carpark and landscaping and additional information signage by Turner Signs, another Narrabri business,” Cr Campbell said.

“It’s really important to support local outlets through this initiative as many have had a challenging few years; as well as providing a tourism boost for the Shire.”
