The Narrabri Show Auxiliary paid tribute to one of its founding members by naming the pavilion kitchen in honour of the late Gwen Lawty.
For the weekend’s Narrabri Show, the auxiliary renamed the kitchen as the Gwen Lawty Memorial Kitchen.
Mrs Lawty, who passed away in October last year, was one of the members to form what was previously known as the Narrabri Show Ladies’ Auxiliary in 1989.
Mrs Lawty formed the group with close friend Dawn Armstrong and daughter-in-law Trish Lawty.
This group was started to supply meals to patrons attending the annual Narrabri Show, and the group of dedicated workers still continues with the task.
Mrs Lawty was a willing and extremely hard worker.
She was fondly known to stay behind the scenes, humbly working in the background.
Mrs Lawty is remembered as a modest, generous, and kindhearted woman.
The Lawty family has had a long-standing history of association with the Narrabri Show, as Mrs Lawty’s husband, Ted, was involved with the construction of the George Foxe Pavilion.
In addition, Narrabri Showgrounds proudly hosts the Ted Lawty Pavilion in honour of Ted’s many years of dedication to the community, something which continued with Mrs Lawty’s involvement in establishing the Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Mrs Lawty was awarded a life membership to the Narrabri Show Society and was a patron of the show for more than 30 years.
