Everyone’s favourite family event for the June long weekend is back with a bang: Rowena Cracker Night will be held on Sunday, June 12 with gates opening at 5pm.

“We’re very excited; hosting cracker night has been a large part of the Rowena community for years.

“It’s a great night out for the family, good value for money, and the fireworks are spectacular,” said one of the event’s organisers Megan Brummell.

For the last two years, COVID restrictions sadly cancelled the village’s famous cracker night, which is coordinated by a dedicated committee to raise funds for the Rowena Pre-school and Public School.

“It has a special meaning to a lot of people, and it was hard not being able to hold the event to raise funds and put Rowena on the map for that one night of the year – so we’re really excited the event is going ahead.”

As well as supporting the education of Rowena’s children, the community is being encouraged to come along, bring visiting family and friends, and enjoy some ‘good, old fashioned country hospitality’ around a warm bonfire.

Cracker night’s popular super table of baked goods will be back on the menu, including Rowena resident Wendy Burrell’s delicious sponge cake rolls, which were so highly sought-after in 2019; they were all eaten by 7pm.

Attendees can also dance the night away to live music and try their luck in a raft of raffles with lots of fantastic prizes up for grabs.

The village’s wide-open spaces and big dark sky makes it the perfect venue for a colourful cracker night.

For more than a decade, the event has attracted the same talented team of pyrotechnicians from Newcastle who create an awesome fireworks display.

Children under five can come through the gate for free; tickets are just $10 for five to twelve years and only $25 for 12 years to adults, with proceeds going to a great cause.

Tickets include a night of fun and entertainment and a scrumptious steak sandwich or sausage sizzle for dinner.

Tickets are available online at trybooking.com or at the gate on the night.
