Local touch footy teams Agies, TRTW and Cougars have all qualified for Narrabri Touch’s 2022 mixed season grand final night after winning their respective preliminary final matches at Hogan Oval on Monday.

The three teams now join the sides that beat them a week earlier in major semi-finals during the second week of the campaign’s finals series.

Agies will challenge the Sprayerbarn Spinouts in the A-grade final, TRTW will meet Win Or Booze in the B-grade decider, and Cougars will go head-to-head with Hounddogs in the C-grade final.

Those grand finals will be contested at Dangar Park, the home of Narrabri Rugby Club, on Friday, June 17.

On Monday, the preliminary finals of the B-grade and C-grade divisions were contested first.

TRTW won the B-grade game quite comfortably as it scored a 6-1 victory against Lumberjacks (and Jills). Toby Bentley scored a hat-trick of tries in his side’s win and teammates Cameron Baguley, Emma John and Sam Sadler all crossed for a try each. The Lumberjacks (and Jills)’s try was scored by Brendon Ward.

The C-grade game was much closer as Cougars and Witty Wizards played out a one-point thriller that needed a drop off period to decide which team would progress to the grand final. The score was 7-all at the end of the regulation period before Michael Knox crossed for the match-winning try for Cougars. Earlier in the contest, David Toomey scored a hat-trick for Cougars, while Amanda Smith bagged a double and Rya Knox and Kobe Toomey crossed for a try each. Jaiden Lovegrove went over for four tries for the second week in a row for the Witty Wizards. Teammate Dylan Segundo scored two of his side’s tries and Kira Manning scored the other.

The A-grade match wrapped up the night as another close playoff match was contested when Agies downed Hammer Time 5-3 to advance to the decider. Agies’ Clifford Toomey Jr was the only player to score more than one try in that game as he bagged a double. Teammates Alisha Conomos, Bella Cruickshank and Lachlan Trindall all scored a try each, while Tom Nolan, Peta Cox and Hamish Duncan scored a try each for Hammer Time.
