The NSW government will fund the repair bill for damage to Culgoora Road caused by increased heavy vehicle traffic in recent weeks.
Heavy vehicles travelling between Narrabri and Wee Waa have been diverted to Culgoora Road after the Kamilaroi Highway was closed to vehicles over 15 tonnes at Spring Creek Bridge on May 26 due to structural issues.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said Transport for NSW was continuing to work with Narrabri Shire Council to monitor the impact of increased traffic on Culgoora Road and to plan future repairs.
“We will fund the restoration of Culgoora Road to its pre-detour condition to ensure there is no ongoing inconvenience for local road users,” Mr Farraway said.
“We have heard the concerns of local residents regarding the impact of increased traffic and appreciate their understanding as we continue work to repair the bridge.
“Transport for NSW and Narrabri Shire Council carried out a pre-assessment of Culgoora Road prior to the detour coming into effect and will carry out a post-assessment once the Kamilaroi Highway reopens at Spring Creek Bridge.”
Emergency work to repair the Spring Creek Bridge to enable the load limit to be lifted is scheduled to be completed by Monday, July 4, weather permitting.
