The elections are well behind us but a reader brings forward some terminology that has intrigued him. ‘“A bellwether seat” is one which reputedly reveals the direction an election will go” he reports. “‘Bellwether’ refers to the historical practice of putting a bell around the neck of a wether leading a flock of sheep.”
