The Aboriginal flag was officially hoisted at the front of Narrabri Shire Council chambers this week as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations in the shire.
Councillor Darrell Tiemens officiated over the proceedings, welcoming attendees to council’s NAIDOC Week festivities.
Krista Zarka delivered the welcome to country before Les Knox shared his reflections of NAIDOC Week.
Jayden, Aleka and Tyrell Russell-Towney had the honour of officially hoisting the Aboriginal flag up the flag pole as part of Wednesday morning’s festivities.
Cr John Clements, addressing the gathering, welcomed Steven Booby to the celebrations. Mr Booby, together with Cr Clements, was instrumental in having the Aboriginal flag flown permanently at the chambers almost a decade ago.
Cr Clements said it was important the flag was flown as a permanent fixture, not just as part of NAIDOC Week.
