The 49th annual NSW Floral Art Association exhibition was hosted by the Narrabri Garden Club on Saturday and Sunday, August 6-7, at the Narrabri Bowling Club.

Exhibitors from across NSW sent in entries in a hotly contested competition.

Local district entries enjoyed a number of placings with some standout exhibits by the Narrabri Garden Club.

Entries were crafted from plant materials used to create art forms in many design styles, including modern, traditional, European, avant-garde, sculptural and abstract.

The plant materials can be fresh, dried or dyed and accessorised with items to enhance the display and conform with the theme of each category.

NSWFAA conducts four weekends each year at various locations around NSW.

These weekends combine competition and education, showcasing new techniques and trends in floral design through demonstrations with top floral designers.

NSWFAA judges and demonstrators travel all over the state to share their love of floral art.

With a panel of experienced, qualified judges and trained demonstrators, they welcome the opportunity to go out into the community, visiting clubs and organisations.

Four demonstration sessions and two workshops were held over the weekend by Michael Corderio, Helen Mitchell, Ngaire Gamack, Gayle Robinson and Gwen Hartley.

President of NSWFAA Madhu Shah was delighted with the high standard of entries.

“We have enjoyed a wonderful weekend with the opportunity to showcase local talent as well as many entries from further afield.

“The NSW association is affiliated with the Australian Floral Art Association, and in turn with the World Association of Floral Artists,” she said.

“The WAFA, formed in 1981, will be holding its international exhibition in Australia in 2027, which we are greatly looking forward to”.

Vice president of Narrabri Garden Club Noeline Kiss added: “The commitment and travelling undertaken by the NSWFAA team every year is quite amazing.

“The judges and demonstrators are all so generous, imparting their knowledge and expertise to our workshop attendees.

“It is inspiring, especially when you consider that their curriculum vitae includes a substantial number of international travel and honours,” Mrs Kiss said.

“It was an incredible experience to attend the workshops and demonstrations that took place over the weekend.

“The Narrabri Garden Club were thrilled to host the visiting floral artists and also to welcome exhibitors from all over the state”.
