Narrabri Shire Council will be able to provide up to 90 new qualifications to employees, thanks to funding received through the NSW Department of Education and Training.
Narrabri Shire mayor Ron Campbell said council had received training to the value of $117,640.
“This initiative will multi-skill our workforce, provide greater agility and most importantly allowing improved capability to deliver critical services to our community,” Cr Campbell
said.
“The training will allow council employees to become multi-skilled in a range of qualifications which will benefit their professional development and enhance workplace practices.”
The skills development was the result of a training needs analysis and was a joint effort between council’s governance and risk and human resources teams and was led by council’s work health and safety business partner Billy Gleeson-Barker.
It will be delivered in conjunction with LDO Training and includes:
• Backhoe loader operations.
• Civil construction skid steer loader operations.
• Civil construction excavator operations.
• Civil construction wheeled and tracked front end loader operations.
• Licence to operate a boom type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more).
• Licence to perform dogging.
• Enter and work in confined spaces.
• Working safely at heights training.
Projects such as the Killarney Gap rehabilitation, Culgoora Road rehabilitation and Millie Road construction and flood repairs will benefit from the workforce training delivery.
