It has been dry in Europe with countries like German, France, Italy and Spain and others experiencing the worst drought in 500 years. The Rhine river, a major artery of commerce, is too dry to take normal shipping, and a stone block on which was carved ‘Year of Hunger 1947’ in that dry period has again emerged from the dropping water level 75 years later. What we call a drought has been labelled by the European Drought Observatory ‘a severe precipitation deficit.’
