The vibrant works of Narrabri artist Jess Tribe have been showcased by the Wee Waa Community Arts and Cultural Centre at the George Street gallery’s debut solo exhibition.
A sold-out opening night spectacular marked the start of the exhibition.
The display, titled ‘August’, features the works of Ms Tribe who is a self-taught artist working across a variety of mediums.
Ms Tribe’s talents were showcased earlier this year as part of the CREATE festival. Her works have featured in her hometown of Narrabri as well as further afield.
Wee Waa Community Arts and Culture Centre coordinator Lisa Almagro praised Ms Tribe for her support of the Wee Waa gallery since its inception.
Mrs Almagro introduced accomplished Narrabri artist and illustrator Graeme Compton to address the gathering about Ms Tribe.
Mr Compton was thanked for being a mentor to many artists in the community, including Ms Tribe.
“The thing that always strikes us, as an audience, when we’re looking at the works of a creative person … is their ability to draw,” Mr Compton said.
“And Jess’ ability to draw is exceptional. She really has honed her talent.
“It takes commitment, and in Jess’ case tenacity and courage in the face of adversity to bring herself to the point where you can do something beautifully, perfectly and convincingly so the audience looks at it and says ‘wow’.
“That’s what we have here, a whole room full of works that you can truly appreciate and stand in front of for some time and continue to appreciate because they are all of finesse.”
