Narrabri Shire Council advises landowners that now is the time to control African boxthorn, mother of millions and cacti growing on their properties.

Director infrastructure delivery Eloise Chaplain said it was a responsibility under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015 to manage priority matter such as these species, which are currently experiencing widespread growth in the shire.

“With the above average rainfall this year, the plants are experiencing a good growing season, and there is an increased threat of priority matter spreading,” she said.

“Council has engaged local contractors to help get infestations under control along council roads and we strongly encourage property owners to do the same.”

“There are various methods to control these species, including the use of chemical, mechanical, biological and fire control.”

For further information on effective control methods and chemical rates, please contact council’s weed officers on 02 6799 6866.
