Demountable classrooms are being transformed into emergency accommodation for families displaced by flooding events in the northern rivers and north coast region. The demountables are being completely stripped out and put back together to support urgent housing needs. These modular homes are quick and easy to build, fit out, transport and install. The process is underway to convert more than 450 demountable classrooms into 248 housing units with the capacity to accommodate more than 900 residents. The NSW government is investing $20 million in repurposing demountables for 248 temporary housing units, which will be progressively delivered to the northern rivers region over the next six months.
