Geni.Energy was pleased to receive runner-up Best New Business at the recent business awards ceremony.

Starting a new business is challenging, especially when you choose to do it as a social enterprise. These are businesses that are established to return their profits to the mission of the organisation rather than to shareholders or owners. In the case of Geni.Energy, this mission is to create more jobs and industry from renewable energy.

Since establishing in September 2020, Geni.Energy has been working out ways to best create new benefits for Narrabri and the northwest from the renewables sector.

“There is a transition going on now and we need to work out how rural communities and our community in particular, can benefit from the opportunities that this new electricity grid can provide,” Sally Hunter director of Geni.Energy said.

“Right now, 32 per cent of our electricity grid comes from renewables and the growth, especially from rooftop solar, is astounding,” she said. “There are great opportunities for Narrabri homes, farms and businesses to not only save money and emissions from solar, but we can start to get really creative about new industries based on cheaper renewable electricity”.

Geni.Energy provides a free consultation for homes, farms and businesses to assess their energy use and work out solutions.

“Some of our past customers are saving thousands of dollars a year and others are now looking at ways to increase their electricity use in the middle of the day to soak up the excess solar,” Sally said. “These are exciting times.”
