The humble country hall is the heartbeat of rural communities, and this weekend there’ll be plenty to celebrate as the magnificent Maules Creek Hall marks its centenary.

Preparations have been underway with the Maules Creek Hall committee devoting hours of time and holding a working bee ahead of this Saturday’s festivities, which will include the highly-anticipated, 80-metre Maules Creek sprint with $1000 worth of prize money up for grabs thanks to the generosity of sponsors.

Celebrations will kick off on Saturday morning with a delicious morning tea that’s not to be missed, prepared by the dedicated Maules Creek CWA ladies.

A coffee van will also be on offer, and local families are being encouraged to take part in a static display of family photos and history.

A big screen, donated by Fairfax Public School, is being used to showcase interviews celebrating the district’s history.

The burying of a time capsule is also part of the day’s formalities, as well as the painting of a tree, to raise awareness about suicide as part of the ‘blue tree’ initiative.

Locals, friends, and families are invited to come and enjoy the action-packed program, from old-fashioned children’s games to a sheaf tossing contest and a camp oven meal.

The day presents an opportunity for the many district residents – past and present – to reunite and reminisce about the rich history of Maules Creek and share its special significance with visitors.

Maules Creek is known for its mighty community spirit, and locals are sure to put on a spectacular day – rain, hail or shine.
