The weekend visit to Narrabri by the steam locomotive and its carriages from another era brought back memories for many. One sentimental traveller recalled regularly getting ash in his eyes as the North West Mail trundled to and from Sydney. “We still poked our heads out the windows, though,” he said. And the luggage racks in the compartments also brought recollections. “That’s where you could sleep,” he said.
