More than $600 was raised when Narrabri resident Helen Dugdale decided to stage a Beyond Blue fundraiser at the Wilga Hotel on Thursday, October 6.

Mrs Dugdale was touched by the community support on the day. “I would like to thank those who donated prizes to the raffle and to the lolly jar guessing game, and of course all the people who bought tickets.

“Many thanks to people who simply arrived and donated money, as well as to the people who donated on-line directly to Beyond Blue. An anonymous donor very generously left an envelope containing $100 – it was a very special moment.”

“It’s all about the goodness of human nature, and people wanting to help.”

“The staff at the Wilga Hotel were also supportive, providing help to set up and supplying some blue cakes for the event,” Mrs Dugdale added.

“If we can raise awareness about Mental Health and where to go to for help, then it is all worthwhile. There is always someone to talk to no matter how bad you feel.”

“In the lead up to organising the fundraising event, and on the day itself, so many people said to me ‘I have been through something like this’, or ‘a close family member has been through a bad depression’. It is upsetting for all concerned. There are people who genuinely want to help. So please, contact one of the telephone or online counselling services”.
