There was an enthusiastic group of children at the Narrabri Shire Library on Wednesday, October 5 when they enjoyed the fun of driving robots and learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEAM) at the same time.

STEAM and childhood literacy officer Jonathan Stilts and Makerspace officer Julian Mann attended the school holiday workshop titled ‘Robot Red Rover’, organised by Narrabri Shire Library programs officer Ann Bowen.

The children took control of VEX robots, spheros and robotic arms, scoring points and avoiding traps along the way, with guidance and instruction from Makerspace officer Julian Mann.

Mr Stilts and Mr Mann are based at the Central Northern Regional Library innovation studio Tamworth, bringing digital learning and workshops to regional libraries to inspire children and adults alike.

There is a wide variety of hands-on learning workshops run during the school holiday periods at the Narrabri Shire libraries.

The workshops encourage learning with children immersing themselves in solving a problem by trying, failing, learning from stumbling blocks along the way, trying again and succeeding.
