According to The Economist newspaper, COVID vaccines saved around 20 million lives in their first year. A life-sciences data firm analysed the figures and found vaccines two the biggest impact – those produced by AstraZeneca-Oxford and Pfizer-BioNTech. Each averted between 5 million and 7 million deaths, combined they accounted for more than half the lives saved by vaccines.
